The Local in Bangkok_11

It is not hard to find restaurants in Bangkok. The city if full of gastronomic gems. It doesn’t matter if you are looking for Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Italian or any other kind of cuisine. You can find it in Bangkok. I did my fare share of research and many were the Michelin star restaurants that came up and so many others that were mentioned in the Michelin Guide. I was so overwhelmed with information that I went to the Carlton’s concierge team and asked for a recommendation. The Local was their first option and I went for it! Located in the heart of Sukhumvit, as a foodie, I couldn’t wait to check out this amazing restaurant and it definitely did not disappoint! From the moment I walked in, I was in awe of the unique atmosphere inspired by traditional Thai architecture. The restaurant has a museum-like quality, with many different dining rooms, including private rooms for small groups up to 10 people. The interior design feels like a traditional Thai bourgeois house, with rich wooden accents and comfortable seating. It was the perfect spot for a special dinner.

The menu at The Local is a food lover’s dream come true! It’s translated into English and features great pictures of all dishes to help you understand and order Thai cuisine. Even if you’re unfamiliar with Thai food, the menu makes it easy to explore and discover new dishes. As a starter, I highly recommend the “Miang Kham,” a platter of small dishes from all over Thailand. It was fascinating to try different flavors and textures, and the edible flower petal was a pleasant surprise.

One thing that stood out to me was the traditional black and white rice that is served from table to table. It was a unique and fun experience, and the quality of the rice was exceptional. Another standout dish was the pork stew with quail eggs – I absolutely love quail eggs and couldn’t resist ordering it.

But the real star of the show was a dish  made of shrimp and minced pork meat that was extremely spicy. It was definitely not for the faint of heart, but even though I always run away from spicy food, I couldn’t get enough! The chefs at The Local use fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and it shows in the quality of their food.

And for dessert, instead of the traditional Mango Sticky Rice that I love, I opted for ice cream to cool down my taste buds after all the spicy food.
